Summer '08 and MSU

Summer '08 has been a very different summer for me, because first and foremost, I'm going to college this year. Now when it comes to college, I've been all over the place trying to select a college to go to, and many times I kept thinking a certain one was right for me. But out of all the colleges I thought I wanted to attend, I didn't get into any of them ... besides one, Montclair State University. It was just a college out of many that my mom suggested that I apply to. Honestly, I never really thought anything of it, never did any real research concerning it, I just applied ... and I got in. Montclair State University is in North Jersey, which is crazy far. When I first got there (to take my placement test), it was really amazing and I was really excited about being there and seeing it for the first time. There was something intimidating about walking on campus because it was so large, but at the same time on the inside, I was very excited because it had this atmosphere about it that was simply breathtaking and I knew that this was where I needed to be.

Now, to talk about orientation. I woke up at some ungodly hour (5 AM) and had to call mom to wake her up. I hit the shower and got dressed and fixed my hair and got everything that I needed, and in about an hour or so, mom showed up. So me, daddy, and mommy got in the car, and soon we were on our way. Of course, we had to stop at Wawa to get some breakfast lol, and after that, we drove a long 2 hour and a half drive all the way to the campus. On the way there, I was really excited and couldn't wait to meet other freshman, but once we got on campus, my stomach began to drop. Once inside the Student Center, I could feel the "college atmosphere" and it was awesome. They served us continental breakfast and it was pretty good =) but before I knew it, it was time to sign in. The line was incredibly long and there were a tonnn of freshman standing around. After I signed in, me and my parents went to this huge room where they had different stations and you can talk to people about the different services and things the school has to offer. And yess, I saw 2 cute guys along the way ;] One was at the Rave station (about phones for school) and the other was at the intermural sports station ... and heck yess, you know I was lovin' it lol. After that, we went to this small auditorium where they gave the parents and students a welcoming speech and told us some information about the college and some other things. Then it was time for the students to meet our peer leader. My peer leader was a sophmore named Lissette, who's Columbian. There was several other people in my group; Jamie, Antonio, Ryan, Nathan, and Mark. We played some games and icebreakers and it was a lot of fun. The only person I talked to (tried to get to know) was Jamie ... at least that's some progress lol.

To make a long story short, I went to many different rooms and buildings, and they talked to us about school safety, dorming and what we should and shouldn't bring, students code of conduct, how to register for classes, I met my academic first-year counciler, and I even saw a skit on some of the many things that could happen while living on campus. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and I had a really nice time (and I got to see one of the cute guys before I left lol). Even though it was nice, hours after returning home, I felt terrified because I was afraid of starting over, having to make new friends, and while I was there I felt very left out ... but even so, people were telling me that I would survive, and I'm not going to die, but that I'm going to make new friends, and have fun and how it's going to be the best year of my life, and some other stuff. So now I'm reallyy excited to go to school and I can't wait !

18 daysss left ! heck yess <3
